DO YOU KNOW YOUR BEERS?
HERE IS SOME INFORMATION TO HELP YOU CHOOSE
Lagers: Brewed with bottom fermenting yeast at cooler temperatures for a smooth flavour. It has a pale golden colour, is carbonated and lightly hopped for a taste that is crisp and refreshing.
Lager is best suited to lighter tasting foods, such as grilled chicken or seafood.
Ales: Brewed with top fermenting yeast at cellar temperature, ales are fuller bodied, with nuances of fruit or spice and a pleasantly hoppy finish. Ales are often darker than lagers, ranging from rich gold to reddish amber.
Ales are best suited to strong flavoured foods such as red meat, sausage, fish and chips.
Light Beers: Extremely light in colour and body with a mild flavour. Light beers are highly carbonated with low bitterness and no after taste. As well, they have fewer calories and/or lower alcohol content than other beers.
Light beers compliment spicy Mexican or Indian foods, and combine nicely with appetizers.
Draught: Light or dark, in any style, draught beer is simply any beer served from a keg or cask. Typically fresh tasting and easy to drink, draught beer has slightly lower carbonation levels so is less filling than other beers.
Draught beers are best suited to pub food and all types of snacks.
Stout: Deep, dark and flavourful, stout earns its character from brewing with highly roasted malts. Stout features intense malt and caramel flavours, and depending on the variety, ranges from sweet to dry and distinctively bitter. Stout beers are best served as a unique compliment to shellfish, hearty stews and wild game.
